AN UPPER LEVEL LOW WILL TRACK NORTH OF THE REGION TODAY...SPREADING MOISTURE INTO THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIANS THROUGH TONIGHT. A SHALLOW LAYER OF COLD AIR NEAR THE SURFACE BROUGHT IN BY A LARGE COLD RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE EXTENDS FROM THE NORTHERN ROCKIES EASTWARD TO THE MID ATLANTIC. SLIGHTLY WARMER TEMPERATURES AND A LATER START TO THE PRECIPITATION THAN EARLIER EXPECTED WILL AFFECT THE PRECIPITATION TYPE...CHANGING ANY INITIAL SNOW...SLEET OR FREEZING RAIN ACROSS SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA AND NORTHEAST TENNESSEE TO MOSTLY RAIN QUICKLY BEFORE MUCH ACCUMULATES.
AS COLDER AIR STARTS TO RETURN TO THE AREA TONIGHT...THE RAIN IS EXPECTED TO CHANGE TO SNOW...WITH THE CHANGEOVER FROM RAIN TO SNOW EXPECTED TO OCCUR MAINLY AFTER MIDNIGHT. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF UP TO TWO INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE ACROSS SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA AND THE NORTHEAST TENNESSEE MOUNTAINS...NEAR ONE INCH ACROSS THE NORTHERN CUMBERLAND PLATEAU AND SMOKY MOUNTAINS...WHILE AMOUNTS LESS THAN AN INCH ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE NORTHERN AND CENTRAL TENNESSEE VALLEY. SNOW IS NOT EXPECTED TO ACCUMULATE ACROSS THE SOUTHERN CUMBERLAND PLATEAU...SOUTHERN TENNESSEE VALLEY...AND EXTREME SOUTHWEST NORTH CAROLINA.
THERE STILL IS SOME UNCERTAINTY OF HOW SOON THE COLDER AIR BEHIND THE SYSTEM WILL MOVE IN BEFORE IT MOVES OFF TO THE EAST WHICH WILL AFFECT SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS TONIGHT.

One time in march he said it'd snow at 60 degrees. That was a few years ago.
